Our Religious and Worldview Curriculum
Intent
At Maple Grove Primary School, our Religion and Worldviews curriculum supports our Religious Education (RE) planning and teaching. This ensures that high-quality lessons are delivered across the school, from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Year 6.
Our Religion and Worldviews curriculum aims to develop deep thinkers who are open-minded about different religions and worldviews. The curriculum is relevant to the children, reflecting and preparing them for life in modern Britain. Through this scheme, students will gain a deep understanding of key concepts, enabling them to make connections, ask and respond to challenging questions, and learn to respect and appreciate diverse worldviews. They will also explore their preconceptions and viewpoints.
Following a progressive curriculum, children will enhance their conceptual knowledge by studying religions and worldviews at local, national, and global levels. This approach allows them to make links between different worldviews, develop essential skills, and understand their positionality about their learning. By revisiting important 'big questions' and building on prior knowledge, students will learn how religion and worldviews are lived experiences worldwide. They will also consider the impact of these worldviews on society and have opportunities to reflect on their personal beliefs.
Our Religion and Worldviews scheme aligns with government guidance, which states that RE must reflect that "the religious traditions in Great Britain are, in the main, Christian, while taking account of the teachings and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain." The scheme meets the objectives outlined in the Curriculum Framework for Religious Education in England and the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (RE).
